City council message

Minneapolis skyline
|
Minneapolis is bustling, exciting, cosmopolitan city that attracts GLBT
people from all over the Midwest – and the country – to live,
work and play. We have a long history of acceptance and inclusion of GLBT
people and families. Our city recognizes its GLBT families by registering
domestic partners, both residents and visitors. And each June we have an
enormous GLBT Pride celebration. The last weekend in June is “Pride
Weekend” with the city’s most-watched parade and hundreds of
thousands of visitors attending the event in beautiful Loring Park in
the heart of Minneapolis.
GLBT people find welcome in all parts of Minneapolis. There is no single “gay
area.” GLBT people can be found living and working in all neighborhoods
and parts of our city. Also, you will find gay-owned and -operated clubs,
restaurants, businesses and services. This is an incredibly open and
accepting city with a long history of GLBT activism and involvement. We
currently
boast 3 openly gay City Council members, an openly lesbian State Representative
and an openly gay State Senator.
We encourage you to visit our beautiful, 4-season city where we guarantee
you ’ll feel welcome.
